
Two people were killed when a vintage World War II fighter plane crashed in West Galveston Bay Wednesday (Oct. 23). A P-51 Mustang from the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston went down around noon with a pilot and one passenger inside. A witness on a fishing charter boat reportedly saw the plane go down in the water between Galveston Bay and Chocolate Bay. Known as the “Galveston Gal” the historic fighter plane was photographed at the Wings over Houston Airshow in 2012.

GALVESTON — Two people were killed when a vintage World War II fighter plane crashed in West Galveston Bay Wednesday (Oct. 23), officials report.
Known as the “Galveston Gal”, the historic P51 Mustang was based at the Lone Star Flight Museum.in Galveston. The pilot and one passenger were onboard when the aircraft reportedly took off from Scholes International Airport in Galveston shortly before crashing.
A witness on a fishing charter boat called for help after the plane was seen going down in the water between Galveston Bay and Chocolate Bay.
The Coast Guard launched a search and located wreckage from the crash roughly 13 miles southwest of the Galveston airport in Galveston Bay about an hour later.
The names of the victims have not been released.
